| MetaPaid Pays You to Complete Offers Posted: 23 May 2008 01:00 AM CDT
With so many offers on the Internet for you to download free smileys and sign up for low-interest Credit Cards, wouldn’t it be nice if someone provided an added incentive for you to go through with these registration forms and applications? While it may be thinly veiled as a series of affiliate links, MetaPaid has the potential to provide its users with a decent source of supplemental income. Read the rest of this review to find out if MetaPaid is worth your while. How to Get Paid with MetaPaid MetaPaid is actually a very simple system for you to get paid cash for fulfilling certain offers and signing up for certain programs. After filling out the MetaPaid application form, which you can find on the main page of the site, you are immediately brought into the members’ area. There is no approval process. You are instantly granted access.
The application form only asks for basic information, like a name, email address, phone number, and mailing address. From there, you can navigate to the offers page to see if any of them (there were 74 offers available when this review was written) tickle your fancy. For each offer completed, you will need to submit a Credit Request form. Payment is sent every 15 days via PayPal, assuming that you meet the minimum threshold of $10. That’s a pretty low payout level if you ask me. Then again, how much do these offers pay anyhow? Offers Available Navigating to the offers page, you are presented with a list of the offers that are currently available through MetaPaid. Three critical pieces of information are shown on this page for each offer. You get the name of the offer, its cash value, and how soon the credits can be placed in your account. The cash value of the offers range from a few cents, all the way up to over twenty dollars.
There are several offers that pay you a few dollars at a time, so it doesn’t take much to reach the $10 minimum payment level. A major issue I had with MetaPaid, however, is that they do not provide any further description of any of the offers. When you click on one, you are immediately redirected to the advertiser’s website. There is no prior description beyond the name of the advertiser and there is no description of exactly what you need to do to fulfill the offer requirements. For Credit Card applications or the downloading of smiley packages, the requirements are reasonably clear, but what about something like DeVry University? Do I need to enroll in a program with the school? This lack of clarity and the lack of information regarding each offer can make for quite the frustrating user experience. Not Available in Your Area And that’s not the only issue with MetaPaid. Taking a quick check through the provided FAQ, you will discover that MetaPaid services are only available to members located in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The rest of the world is pretty much out of luck with this “permission-based marketing company.” Being a Canadian, I thought that I wouldn’t have too much trouble navigating through the available MetaPaid offers, but a large number came up with this message: “We’re sorry! This offer is not available in your area. You will be redirected shortly.” Having this information available right from the offers page would certainly make things a lot easier. How about some little country flags, MetaPaid? Potentially Good Idea, But… We’ve seen services similar to those offered by MetaPaid in the past. The idea is actually pretty clever, because they are able to get paid by convincing members to fulfill affiliate offers. If the offers are good for all parties involved and the user interface is well designed, I can see an idea like this really catching on. Unfortunately for MetaPaid, the lack of information surrounding each offer — especially what is required to fulfill each individual offer — is a real deal killer. The offers page needs some serious work. Too bad. MetaPaid could have worked. |
| Google Taking On Third Party Ads Posted: 22 May 2008 09:14 PM CDT Google has opened up its Google AdSense network to third-party advertisers. Before, the network served text and display ads from Google only. This is good news for the third-party advertising networks as it allows them access into the biggest ad platform in the world.
If you’re currently opted in to show image ads, then you’re go to go for third-party ads. If not, you can enable image ads to start receiving third-party ads immediately. You will need to update your privacy policy to inform your visitors that third-party vendors may serve ads on your site. You’ll continue to have full control over which ads appear on your site with tools like competitive ad filtering and the Ad Review Center. More information about the third-party ads can be found at the Google blog or at the Google FAQ. This Post Was Brought To You By Put Your Website to Work - Monetize your traffic today! | How to Connect with an A-Lister Posted: 22 May 2008 07:00 PM CDT This post was guest blogged by Allen Young the co-author of “Tenant in Common Investing-The Uncommon Path to Massive Wealth“ In a prior post I wrote of my experience having dinner with John Chow recently. I recommend that if you ever get the opportunity to spend some time with an A-list blogger or an A-Lister in any industry to do so. You get an opportunity to learn from and know a very accomplished person on a personal level. However, you may ask how does someone not on the A-list make contact with an A-Lister? Let me share some tips on how to connect with an A-Lister and how I made contact with John Chow. On either Oprah or Dr. Phil (yes I watch both) recently the topic was "How to Marry a Millionaire". The expert's advice was that in order to meet eligible millionaires, you have to go where millionaires hang out. Okay. That is some great expert advice, but it is not as simple as it seems. If you are not a millionaire you don't have access to all the places a millionaire does such as an exclusive country or yacht clubs. Likewise you can't just call up an A-Lister in your industry like Donald Trump and just ask him to hang out with you. That just does not happen. It is easier to reach out to an A list blogger via the Internet because blogging is more social. Blogging also encourages interaction among the blogger and its audience. Here are some ways to make contact with an A-Lister. Make initial Contact This is the hardest step. You have to let the A-Lister know who you are. You can send an email or leave a comment on the blog and hope they respond to you. Don't overdo it. You don't want to look like a stalker, psycho, or just desperate. I followed John's blog particularly his fine dining posts and left a few comments which John responded to. It's not a formal introduction but it is a start. Look for Opportunities Any A-Lister will be very busy with hundreds of email from people trying to contact them for business proposals and a million other things. You need to stand out from the crowd by looking for opportunities to differentiate yourself from everyone else. If you know something about the A-Lister you can use it to connect on a personal level. Maybe if you know they like exotic cars send a link to something they did not know and suggest they post about it. My opportunity to connect with John was when John let me guest post on his blog in February. Now I was no longer just a reader but a contributor to his blog and it helped to have him remember me. Take advantage of Opportunities Once you are able to make a connection you need to take advantage of it. You need to follow up and build on the relationship. After guest blogging for John I sent him a thank you note. From reading his blog I knew John would be in San Francisco in April so I offered to take him out to a fine dining meal while he was in town. I did not hear back from him so I followed up again a few weeks later. I did not bombard him with emails but waited patiently. I knew John was busy and I did not want to appear like a stalker. I had laid out the lure of a fine dining meal for John and waited for him to respond. Finally he did and we had a meeting set up. Connecting with an A-Lister is like dating. You want to meet someone special but do not want to appear desperate. So you appear to casually make contact while working very hard to do so. All the hard work is in meeting that someone special and getting them to first acknowledge you and than agreeing to go out with you. That is the hard part but once you get this far you do not want to blow it. Preparation Treat your meeting with an A-Lister like an important interview or business meeting. You have to prepare to put yourself in the most favorable view. Do your homework. In preparation for my dinner with John I reread his blog for personal information. I made sure I had his wife and daughter's name correctly (Sarah and Sally). In deciding on a place to have dinner I knew John loved Foie Gras so the restaurant I chose had to have excellent Foie Gras and of course the restaurant had to meet the standards of John Chow which I knew by reading his fine dining posts. As any A-Lister will tell you and as I learned from John few things in life happen by chance. Connecting with an A-Lister is not random. It takes planning. There is a bit of luck also but the harder you work the luckier you get. Connecting with an A-Lister and learning from them is a valuable experience in itself, but you would not be a little "evil" like John if you did not try to further take advantage of this opportunity. In a later post I will share how to make a business proposal to an A-Lister. This Post Was Brought To You By Still Selling SiteWide Links? That Means You Are Losing LOTS OF MONEY! | How Much Do Workers Make In China? Posted: 22 May 2008 01:00 PM CDT The Nameless Factory Worker This is where many young village girls end up if they leave the family farm. China has thousands of factories that manufacture every product known to man (and some that are not known). These factories employ a mostly female workforce because women are easier to control. The workers are paid an average of 1000RMB per month plus housing and food. Since these factories are huge and the only things near by are more factories, there’s really no where for the girls to spend their money. Most will send the funds back home to help their families. The jobs are very repetitive and I’m sure extremely boring. However, it pays many times more than working on the farm back home. Add in the fact that the living costs are zero since the company provides food and housing and the girls find themselves in a situation many American workers can’t seem to reach - positive cash flow. The Nameless City Worker Jobs in the city pay more than jobs at the factories. However, the cost of living in the city is much higher as well. It’s not uncommon to find 4 or 5 people sharing a small apartment. Most unskilled jobs in Shanghai pay 1000 to 2000 RMB per month. Because of the low wages for unskilled workers, business create a lot of redundancy by employing a bunch of them. The restaurant industry is a prime example. They’ll have multiple greeters at the door and who knows how many more waiters inside. On our train ride to Suzhou, there was a greeter at every single train car. While the unskilled city worker may have access to far more entertainment choices than one of the 250,000 workers at the iPod factory, they generally don’t make enough to really entertain themselves. The English Speaking Worker In a city like Shanghai, being able to speak English opens up a world of new possibilities for the Chinese worker. Speaking English also means more money - 3000 to 5000 RMB per month. For example, in order to work at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai, all employees (except cleaning staff) must be able to speak English or another language. The Grand Hyatt pays a lot more than a local hotel. Then again, they charge a ton more too! A worker can make more money if he has a collage education. However, even if the worker is unskilled, as long as he can speak English, he’s worth more than three times an unskilled worker. The Western Educated Worker At the high end of the working class is the western educated worker. An English speaking employee with a western education is highly prized in China. Wages start at 17,500 RMB per month and many times, the company will pay for all or part of the housing cost. In a country where the average factory wage is 1,000RMB per month, starting at 17,500 puts these workers in a very elite class. It used to be that most western educated Chinese student would stay in the West after graduation because the opportunities are greater. However, this is no longer the case and most students now choose to return home after getting their degree. Look at it this way. A new grad will make the same wage working in the US or China. However, the wage of the new grad in the US isn’t 17.5 times greater than the average US factory worker. Chances are, the US factory worker makes more than the grad. The great need for educated employees has allowed many US and Canadian citizens to seek work in China. You can expect your wages to be about the same as what you would make working at home. However, because the cost of living is so much lower, you can live pretty high on the hog. That is, as long as you stay away from Pudong.
